Description

Global Titanium, Inc. (GTI) is an integrated manufacturer of titanium metallurgical products.  It recycles all forms of titanium scrap to produce ferrotitanium, titanium solids, briquettes, cobbles and turnings for use by the producers of titanium, steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.  It also produces titanium HDH powder for use in specialty titanium products and is the largest toll processor of titanium scrap in the country.

GTI has operated in Detroit since 1937 and had focused on recycling titanium scrap since 1951. Under present ownership, it has diversified its product offerings and has expanded its operations to include production of ferrotitanium, HDH powders and toll processing of turnings for Tier I titanium producers.  These initiatives required significant expansion of its furnace capacity and melt shop, the installation of a “state of the art” wash line for processing aerospace grade titanium turnings, and the installation of a hydride-de-hydride process for production of titanium powders.  These initiatives required the company to double the footprint of its operations and to increase its staff from 55 in 2004 to 130 in 2011.  During that period GTI increased its production from 750,000 pounds per month to 2,700,000 pounds per month.

Financing to support GTI's growth was provided by the Detroit Investment Fund (DIF) in conjunction with Wells Fargo Bank.  The DIF has provided term loans to finance the purchase of machinery and equipment as well as real estate and the expansion of facilities required to support new business.
